Scully

After waiting several weeks for Mt. Redoubt to calm down, Scully finally (and safely) arrived in Alaska on the evening of the 16th. In the photo group, she’s about 12 weeks old and 1/4 the size of her partner, Mulder. So, check out Scully’s first photos!

Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of meeting our beloved Governor, Sarah Palin. She swung by my place of work and gave a press release, unveiling the State’s Energy Plan. It turns out, that the plan is more like a set of guidelines, and doesn’t address transportation, but whatever. So, with “casual Friday” officially cancelled, I was lucky enough, sporting a tie and jacket, to attend the press release and take some photos. For the record, I’m the <Zoolander voice>really, really, ridiculously good looking</Zoolander voice> guy standing 4th from the left in the group photo.

The press release lasted about an hour, during which Palin announced that

This guide will help us move to a future where, ideally, 50 percent of Alaska’s electricity is generated from renewable resources by 2025.

Pretty ambitious, but I think it’s doable since roughly 24% of Alaska’s energy needs are already generated from renewable sources. After the jam-packed press release, the Governor was kind enough to thank the little people who helped make the plan set of guidelines possible. We all congregated in the main foyer and she went around shaking hands and saying all-things Governor-like; “Thank you for your dedicated service to the State.” She was very pleasant and seemed too focused to spout off a few “You betchas!” Damn.

Governor Palin then agreed to a group photo, against the wishes of her spokeswoman. I was in the first group photo and then jumped out to take a photo with my own camera. At this point, just 8 feet from the Governor and the rest of the group, Palin’s spokeswoman said, “It’s alright, get back in there. I’ll take it for you.” Those who know me well, put up with me being understand what a sarcastic, smart-ass I am, so with great effort I bit my tongue and DID NOT reply, “It’s no big deal. I voted for the other guys.”

Author’s note: There is no correlation whatsoever between meeting Sarah Palin, being asked to come back into work that night (twice) to question a monumental oversight help correct a web server issue, and getting absolutely trolleyed at the 14th Annual Great Alaska Beer & Barley Wine Festival. Mulder

My lady friend and I just got a 9-week old, Golden Retriever puppy, named Mulder. He had a long trip up to Alaska from Portland, OR, but did quite well on the plane. My wife and the pooch had a dedicated fan club by the time she reached Fairbanks. He’s already showing signs of being a great runner and is quite well-behaved, even at 9 weeks. I especially enjoy it when he gets pissed at the other, older dogs when they don’t feel like wrestling. Click on the photo thumbnail to the right to see the whole set. Enjoy the photos!

P.S. Scully will join Mulder in a year or two. ;-)
