Chromium/SRWare Iron Niceties
16-Feb, 2010
I’ve been playing around with SRWare Iron as a possible Firefox replacement and I must say, I’m pretty impressed. SRWare Iron is based upon the Chromium browser and sets itself apart from Google Chrome by implementing privacy options built right into the browser. One feature that I particularly like is how the Chromium browser shows the relative location of search terms found throughout a given web page. Although the search terms are highlighted in the actual page (“hacker” in this example), this clever feature provides useful information in existing, normally unused space.

I just updated my iPhone 3G to version 3.1.3 via iTunes. My phone rebooted and remained booting for over 20 minutes. Not good. It finally “came to” and upon trying to access the iTunes store to download new podcasts, I got the dreaded:
Poo. Then I tried to open iNews, my RSS/news reader of choice. It started to launch, then crash. I tried disabling Wi-Fi and using the 3G network…I still couldn’t connect to the iTunes store. I launched Safari…OK. I launched the YouTube app…OK. I launched Pandora…crash. See a pattern here?
All third-party iPhone apps were crashing. Frick.
So, I tried the solution offered up by bhuser (deauthorize computer, restore iPhone, authorize computer, set iPhone up as new device, then sync) and all was well. Third-party apps now worked but I lost all of my preferences. Lame. I then Ctrl-clicked (right-click) on the iPhone icon in iTunes and selected “Restore from backup.” Thankfully, this brought all of my photos, preferences, etc. back onto the phone. Jesus.
This issue was likely caused by recently adding a friend’s iPhone app (that he purchased) to my phone. This required adding my computer to his list of iTunes store authorized computers and syncing the shared app to my phone while he was logged into the iTunes store on my computer. What a mess.
